Out With Outing: Why It's Wrong To Out Trans People
About:
Out With Outing is an etiquette guide written primarily for trans people, but it could also be useful for allies.
In this zine, I explain what outing is, why outing is wrong, and how to be considerate and respectful to trans people. I tell a piece of my story about how outing by my own community has severely affected my mental health.
My motto is: If you wouldn't want a cis person to do that to you, why would it be okay if a trans person does that to you?
This zine is browser readable, mobile-friendly, and free to download. Click through the zine or click "run zine" to read it in the browser like a little book!

More To My Story:
I've found myself in a strange place. When I think about my own community, I don't feel connected or safe. The nightmares and flashbacks still plunge me into the deep end. I feel as though my head is being held underwater and I'm fighting to resurface.
When I look at those who hold me under, I see the faces of those who I formerly trusted to have my back. I never thought I'd be endangered and alienated by my own community. Some of us have never lived in a world where trans acceptance wasn't as prominent, and it's hard to imagine why another trans person wouldn't want to be out and public about being trans. On the other side of the coin, I can't imagine why a trans person would want to be public. Both are respectable ways to live, and we shouldn't try to pull other trans people in either direction.
This is why my message is important: please don't out other trans people. What may be safe and liberating for some trans people can be unsafe and damaging for other trans people.
My privacy is my safety and sanity. It can be undone in a second by being outed.

Thank you for creating this. As a reviewer, I think this zine makes points that are useful in reference to all LGBTQIA identities, though it focuses on transgender people. It’s good for allies to read as well as LGBTQIA people themselves, who make mistakes too.
